🌟 CHAPTER 20 🌟

🍭 EVA 🍭

“Aunt Joyce!” I screamed enthusiastically and jumped on my aunt’s body.

“Easy baby girl.” She smiled and twirled me around before putting me down.

“Where have you been all these years aunt Joyce?” I asked curiously and ran my eyes all over her body.

“It’s a long story my dear. But I promise to tell you everything.

But first, let’s go inside.” She retorted.

I giggled happily and led her into my condominium, where I started living in recently.

“Wow! Such a nice place.” She beamed as she looked around my apartment.

“Thanks aunt.”

“I was coming to America when an unknown person slipped in a cocaine in my bag.

I was searched at the airport and the cocaine was found in my bag.

I was really so surprised and confused.

I don’t do hard drugs or illegal products either.

I was handcuffed and sent to jail.

To cut the long story short, I’ve been in prison for the past six years, for a crime I didn’t commit and no nothing about.

I was released just three months ago and I had to fly down to America as soon as I could.

I’ve been in America for the past one month, searching for you, after I was told your parents passed away.

I had gone to the police station and asked enquiries about you.

And after much interrogation and investigation, I was told of your whereabouts and I didn’t waste any more time in coming to look for you.

I’m sorry it took me so long to come get you.” She said and by the time she was done narrating her ordeal, we were both in tears.

“It’s okay aunt, I perfectly understand you.

And I’m sorry for what you had to pass through.” I cried and hugged her tightly.

“It’s okay Eva and I’m sorry for the death of your parents.

I still haven’t digested the news down very well that my only sister and relative is dead.

May her soul and that of her husband’s own rest in perfect peace.” She said, with tears rolling down her flushed face.

“I missed you so much aunt.” I said in between my tears.

“And I miss you so much my baby girl.”

Aunt Joyce is my mom’s younger and only sister.

She’s based in Italy with just a child and no husband.

Her husband died even before her child was a year old.

Aunt Joyce has always been very nice towards I and my parents.

She always had good intentions towards us.

I knew from the very first day I saw her, that she was genuinely good and wasn’t in pretence.

Ever since I was a kid, she bought me gifts from Italy and played with me.

She was like my second mother.

She doth so much on me like she would do to her daughter.

But when I was eleven, she just suddenly stopped visiting.

And since then, we never heard from her.

I thought she was pretty preoccupied with work over there and my parents thought so too.

But little did we know that she was in prison all these years.

I’m glad she’s back now.

At least, I now have a family.

After my examination, my aunt suggested I followed her to Italy to start a new life with her and her daughter, Beverly.

I agreed immediately.

But she asked me to think it through but one thing was sure, she wasn’t gonna stay in America, because she had to return to her daughter whom she left with her late father’s mother.

And I agreed to go with her to Italy.

There are so many memories I wanna leave behind and forget.

After replacing new workers in dad’s companies, i placed dad’s ex PA as the temporary CEO of the companies.

Dad has always trusted and had faith in him.

He’ll be giving me feedbacks in Italy and I would come down once in a while to check how the companies are faring.

And once I clock eighteen, I’ll have full access to all the companies.

Until then, dad’s PA would be in charge.

I can’t believe that, Rex demoted him to an ordinary receptionist with his high qualifications and put in a lazy and dumbass person to be in charge.

I did well by firing all incompetent workers.

Ethan wept bitterly when I told him I was gonna be leaving America very soon.

He told me to stay but I refused.

There are some decisions you just have to take.

Three months later, I and aunt Joyce got ready to leave for Italy.

I was damn so happy!

And at the same time, sad.

“Eva!” I heard my name from afar.

I stopped walking and turned around as I was about stepping into the airplane.

He ran towards me, breathing heavily.

Seems he ran all the way from inside the airport to come meet me.

“I had to run all the way here from the entrance of the airport down here. I just wanted to say goodbye before you leave.” He breathed out sadly and held my hands.

“I’m sorry Ethan.” I apologized and stared into his glossy eyes filled with unshed tears.

“Don’t feel sorry or apologetical.

But do you really have to leave?” He asked sadly.

“I have to. I have a new life waiting for me in Italy.

I wanna forget that everything that has happened to me wasn’t real.

I just wanna go far away from here.” I muttered.

“But you’re gonna forget about me.” He pouted.

“Never! How can I forget my first love?

The person who changed me without knowing.

You made me talk, you made feel loved and you made me feel emotions I didn’t think I’ll ever feel.

You brought me out of the dark.

And for that, I’m grateful.” I smiled in between my tears.

He nodded and kissed me on my lips and I reciprocated, forgetting we were in the airport and people would probably being watching.

He pulled away from the kiss and hugged me.

“I’ll never forget you Ethan. If destiny permits us to meet again, we’ll definitely meet.” I reassured with a light smile after we pulled away from the kiss.

“I’ll wait for you Eva. I don’t care how many years it will take but I’ll definitely wait.” He replied and kissed my forehead.

“I’ll wait for you too Ethan, no matter how many years it will take me.” I sighed softly.

He nodded his head and gave me a quick kiss on my lips.

“Eva!” My aunt called out.

“I love you.” I smiled with tears filled eyes.

“I love you too.” He smiled too as tears streamed down his cheeks.

We waved at each other as I climbed in the airplane.

We blew each other kisses as the plane took off.

We continued to wave at each other until the plane finally went up into the clouds.

As I leaned on the seat, I thought of my future.

I’m going to Italy to start a new life, to start afresh.

I’m gonna be a changed and different girl in a positive way.

Ethan doesn’t know what he has done for me, but he has done a lot that I could never have imagined.

I’m going to Italy, leaving my horrible past behind.

Ready to become a new person and adapt to new surroundings.

I’m at peace because I know that, I’m finally going to be happy in my new home.

I’m happy because I’m no longer in the dark.

I’m no longer dumb.

And most importantly, I’m no longer lonely.

I look ahead for a better tomorrow.

My name is Eva Connor and this is my story.
