Chapter Thirty One
😪 Elo’s POV 😪
“Elo! Elo! Elo! Wake up!.” Ohh, who’s this idiot that’s waking me up now, what is even wrong with the person self, what nonsense, can’t the idiot see that I’m actually sleeping. Ugh. I opened my eyes slowly, and looked at the wall clock, 12:13 what the fuck!.
“Elo! Elo! Come on get up, see this wan oo, I dey wake up and she busy dey turn for bed like fowl, come on get up.” I should have know it’s only my mother that can actually be waking somebody up in the middle of the night.
“Mama I’m not getting up, leave me alone.” I grumbled, hugging my pillow really tight.
“I said get up.” My mum orders, hitting me really hard on my back and I sat up on the bed screaming out in pain.
“Ohh, mama what did I do you to you now, why can’t you let me sleep in peace now, mama leave me alone oo, I want to sleep, how will you waking somebody up by this time of the night na.” I complained, frowning really hard at my mom, I tried going back to sleep again but the slap I received from my mother again, made me sit up back.
“Ahhhh!! Mama, what did I do to you, ehn, why won’t you leave me alone, did you see me in your dream.” I exclaimed, “come on, will you shut up and listen to what I have to say.”
“Mama, this better be good oo, cause I don’t see why you’ll be waking me up in the middle of the night, just because you want to tell me something, anyway I’m listening.” I placed my hand under my chin, and waited for my mum to say whatever she wants to say, so I can go back to sleep.
“Hmm, fine I’ll talk. Elo, shebi you know, na you be my first daughter.” My mum says, with all seriousness. Now, I can finally say, this won’t go well.
“Yes, I know.”
“That’s good, Elo how old are you?.” Hey, Jesus, what’s all this question na.
“I’m 23, but mama I don’t….”
“Shut up, if I ask, you answer, don’t say any other thing.” She rebuked.
“Mama, why won’t I say any thing, when you woke me up in the middle of the night, asking me confusing questions, like why would a mother wake her daughter in the middle of the night, and start asking her daughter, her age.”
“Shut up, any way why I woke you up this night, the reason concern, your relationship with Americana.” She said, and I looked up at the ceiling in dismay, “So.. mama, you woke me up in the middle of the night, because of my relationship with Jake.” I asked her, having a look of astonishment on my face.
“Yes, what is bad in that.” Oh geez, Is she for real?
“Everything, but is okay. What about my relationship with Jake, is anything the problem.” I asks her, and my mum shifts a bit on the bed, then said. “Is just that, God don bless you, my pikin with a rich and a very fine young man, who go soon graduate from school. My pikin all this one I dey yarn so, I want make you hold this man really tight, no let any lady take am from you ooo, wait oo, na wetin you do na, Elo, no be you I dey talk to. Elo! Elo! Elo.” My mum taps me repeatedly as I prepared to go back to sleep, I can’t believe she woke me up in the middle of the night, to talk about stuffs that doesn’t even make sense. Ugh, just imagine!!
“Mama, please leave my room, I want to sleep, leave my room.” I ordered her, and laid my head on my pillow, ready to go back to Dreamland.
“Fine, fine, Elo fine, I go leave your room, but make you just know say, I just dey try look out for my own pikin, I will leave ehn, I go, go.”
“Ohhhhh, mummy go now, which one is I will leave, I will leave, but you’re not still going anywhere, you’re still busy standing inside my room, mummy please leave, I’m begging you, wait oo, why am i even begging you, even if you don’t leave, I’ll still sleep.” I arranged my head well on the pillow and then, finally went back to sleep, with my mum still in my room.
Three days later
“Come out Jake, we love you!!!!!! Jake!!!!”
“I love you!!!!! Jake!!.”
“Jake!!!!!!! Jake!!!!!!! Jake!!!!!”
What the fuck, is going on, where the hell, is this noise coming from, ugh. I swear if I go out there, and I catch any body, I feel kill the person, ooo.
“Are you awake, love.” Jake asks, and I can imagine his head poking into my room. This is not the first time he’s doing this, and I know he is with a tray of food on his hand. My door creams a little, signifying he already got in, I know his going to place the tray of food on the reading table my father brought for me, when I was writing junior waec.
“Wake up sleepy head.” He whispers into my ear, and I smiled opening my eyes.
“So… what did you make this morning.” I ask him eyeing the tray.
“Nothing much, just fried eggs, with bread and tea.” He uncovers the plates, and I took in a deep breath, revelling in the nice sent of the fried egg, I wasted no time in digging in, to the sweet deliciousness of fried eggs and bread, accompanied with hot tea.
“Where’s that noise coming from and is it your name they are shouting” I asks Jake, mouthful. The female noise I heard earlier on, is still going on, and I can’t understand what’s actually going on.
“It’s nothing babe, ignore it.” Jake says casually, and my face turns into a frown.
“Jake what’s going on, who are those people shouting outside and why are they shouting your name.” I ask him with a raised eyebrow.
“I said it’s nothing, trouble. Why are you so curious.”
“Seriously, I can’t believe what you’re saying, why would I not be curious, when I can practically here loud voices right outside my house, do you know what, it’s fine if you don’t want to tell me, but I’ll go outside and see for myself what’s actually go on.” I said, dropping the tray of food back on my reading desk, and then got up from my bed. “Babe, I’ve told you there’s nothing going on out there, why don’t you just finish your breakfast, okay.” Jake says, holding on to my hand and I sighed, then removed my hand from his hold forcefully.
“I’m going out there, and that’s final, you can’t stop me.” I told him and then walked out of the room.
“Elo, you’re awake.” Rose asks, with surprise displayed on her face, as she saw me.
“Yeah, I’m awake, is there any reason why I should still be sleeping.” My eyes narrows in suspicion, as I stare at her really intently, she looks at anywhere else but me, she looks really nervous, why is she nervous. ” Of course there’s no reason, but I thought Jake made breakfast for you, why are you not inside your room, eating your breakfast.”
“I’ll eat it, once I check out what’s going on outside.” I told her and pushed her slightly out of the way, so I can see what’s going on outside.
I opened the door and my eyes widen at the crowd that am faced with, what the hell is going on?
